Despite being located in the middle of Johannesburg, the Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff feels like a hillside oasis with a Mediterranean vibe.

Art on the Hill

The Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff hosts regular premier events which they call Art on the Hill. These exclusive events are accompanied by a three course gourmet buffet dinner and showcase the finest in local and international talent in music, ballet, fashion and exhibitions.

On Sunday evening my boyfriend Ed and I were invited to attend the Classics on the Hill with Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, in the ballroom. Far from the incredibly formal and possibly crazy super fancy image you might have conjured from that sentence, the evening was elegantly relaxed and everyone was there to be entertained.

The event was one of a kind, the views were spectacular, the décor was elegant, the musicians were top class, the food was delicious and the service was great.

What more can I say? I would highly recommend attending an Art on the Hill event for a great cultural night out. View their upcoming events here.

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons are well-known classical masterpieces and much enjoyed by a spectrum of music lovers. They are a group of four pieces of music composed in 1723, which portray Antonio Vivaldi’s experiences of each of the four seasons of the year. He also wrote poems to accompany the music, to express its meaning.

Although I was unfamiliar with the term ‘Vivaldi’s Four Seasons’ before attending the event, I recognised most of the music and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The event featured the incredibly talented musicians Petrus de Beer (Violin), Stanislav Angelov (Accordion) and Schalk Joubert (Bass Guitar) who form the group World Café. They entertained us with their renditions of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, with merely three instruments! Along with the performances, they gave explanations of the music, read us the accompanying poems and threw in a few lighthearted moments. In addition, they performed a few musical pieces from movies such as Zorba the Greek, Midnight in Paris and Chocolat; where the audience had to guess the movie.
