There are only two Lindt Chocolate Studios in the world that can be found outside of Switzerland. Both are in South Africa – and both the Johannesburg and Cape Town studios offer a range of indulgent classes for lovers of chocolate. They also have the full Lindt product range available in their Chocolate Boutiques.
Lindt chocolate is known to be delectably smooth and decadent – and one of my faves. So I was very excited when Ed gifted me the experience of attending the Lindt Chocolate Macaron Making Class for my 30th birthday. But, having heard so many stories of general disaster DIY macarons, I was really nervous because I’ve never tried making them before. So of course I was prepared for all of mine to flop…
Lindt Chocolate Macaron Introduction
The class started off with a warm welcome and an introduction to the process of making macarons (or macaroons as we like to call them in South Africa).
Our work stations were prepped with the relevant ingredients, top class kitchen equipment and spotless surfaces.
Gideon and Guy were the Lindt Master Chocolatiers who led our class; with skill and passion. They were professional and helpful, and kept it light-hearted and fun! Whilst the macarons were baking in the oven; we were presented with the history of chocolate, its origins and what makes Lindt so special.
For all those who have tried and flopped with macarons, one of Lindt’s tips is that the correct timing and method is incredibly important.
Lindt & Sprüngli have been making fine chocolate with dedication to the craft since 1845. That said, it comes as no surprise that they are also committed to sustainable farming to safeguard the future of cocoa.
Lindt make their own cocoa which is not available to purchase (I know right?!), so they recommend using the best dark cocoa you can find when making chocolate macarons.
Did you know? Cocoa nibs are a superfood, rich in antioxidants and nutrients.
Lindt Chocolate Macaron Making Class – was it worth it?
This experience is any chocolate lover’s dream. This was definitely one of a kind and I absolutely loved it!
We touched on every aspect of making the perfect chocolate macaron – and then we made it! We immersed ourselves in the magical world of the Lindt Master Chocolatiers and learnt so many fantastic tips and tricks.
The class is reasonably priced at R345 and includes 15 macarons to take home in a gift box, as well as the recipe with Lindt’s secret techniques. Once your box is filled with delicious macarons, it gets closed with the Lindt seal of approval.
Plus, they are easily the tastiest chocolate macarons I’ve ever had. *Pats self on back.*
Thanks to Lindt for a great class, and thanks to my boyfriend Ed for a wonderful birthday present!
