‘With love, Meghan’ first thoughts

So I started watching ‘With love, Meghan’ on Netflix this week, as a way to pass the time and escape my thoughts while healing from my recent op.

What is ‘With love, Meghan’ about?

The trailer was a little vague, so this is what I gathered about ‘With love, Meghan’ before the series premiere on Netflix:

  1. Some critics on the internet felt that this series was a vanity project.
  2. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex fans were really excited no matter what it was about.

So far I’ve watched 1.5 episodes and I can definitively say that I don’t really care either way. I started watching it as an ESCAPE. And you know what? It does a fabulous job of that!

The series so far appears to be how Meghan likes to be the hostess with the most-ess. It’s about making food with special guests as well as her sharing her personal hosting tips and tricks.

Addressing the online banter

Some people online have been asking ‘but why her?’ and ‘what qualifies her?’ And my feelings again, are… well, why not? What qualifies anyone to share their opinions on stuff like she does in this series? It’s her personal experience.

She has also been trolled for filming in an Airbnb instead of her own home. Ok, but how often do chef-come-TV-hosts actually film in their own home? To be fair, she does state very early on that the series is not filmed in her house. So she’s not trying to fake that – even if her past behaviour has been a little shady with accusations of copying others, lying, or faking other things.

What can you expect to see when watching the ‘With love, Meghan’ series?

It’s giving butterfly and rainbows, summery garden party vibes. It’s giving lighthearted fun sunny days, sipping tea with your hair down in a pretty dress, and soaking up the good life.

We’ve got enough fluff dramas like ‘Selling Sunset’ and ‘Love Island’, so why not this?

Meghan likes to use phrases like ‘colourful and joyful’ – which so far sums up my experience of watching this, besides some of the clearly awkward (or staged) moments. But she also likes to use Americanisms like ‘tum-ay-toes’ and ‘bay-zill’ when I would say ’tah-mah-toes’ and ‘bah-zill’, and all the oven recipes are in Fahrenheit. So there’s that.

But I’m going to do something for *you guys* because I always like to give myself small projects that are completely unnecessary. When I’ve finished the first season, I’ll share a post with a summary of my thoughts on each episode. I’ll include my personal thoughts on the series itself as a whole, the guests, the recipes, tips, and tricks she shares, the clothes she wears – and any other Americanisms that may irritate me.

Plus, a second season has already been filmed, so there’s also that.

TLDR: What are my first thoughts on ‘With love, Meghan’?

There is a chance Meghan has actually found her calling, because I believe that she actually is quite crafty and creative.

Again, I’m only 1.5 episodes in – but so far, I actually like it. The series itself has lovely, colourful art direction, with a lovely music score too.

It’s fluff, but it’s not hurting anyone. We have enough of the opposite to worry about IRL, so why not live a little? Enjoy a little escape to Meghan’s elevated summer garden party bubble life.

If this is how she lives in her mind, I’m jealous. Good on her! Good on her for not letting the world’s negativity dull her sparkly mind. Long live the Markle Sparkle!
